that alludes to how brick & mortar businesses are using the Internet for evaluating their standing against their competition. This even gave examples of banks.
If one is just starting a business, they need to consider Political, Economic, Social and Technological factors determining the market -- to analyze who uses their product, and the actual investment opportunities represented.
They also need to look at their own Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. One needs to consider products, business ideas, options of entering new markets, potential partnerships, suppliers, outsourcing of services or resources and investment opportunities again.

Referred to as PEST and SWOT -- this analysis process can also apply to the online or MLM business, and should be re-evaluated from time to time -- that is, if you want to prevent disaster. This quote also was included:
